When we lost Charlie part of our hearts were lost with him.  When my beautiful dark haired boy was born I had never seen such a beautiful little boy.  He had his daddy's chin and lips and my toes.  One fingernail was long and kind of bent and he had a tiny red dot on his right pinkie toe.  For being just 3 lbs 12 oz he looked so chubby.  He had these kissable cheeks.  As I cradled him against my chest I couldn't possibly imagine breathing let alone surviving until tomorrow.  For the 8 hours I held him he stayed with his head on my heart.  That was the sound that was most familiar to him.  A sound that I cherish becuase I have a recording of his.  A third of my heart was shattered that day.  I don't think either of us expected the broken heart to ever heal.  We were introduced to SHARE and they helped us put some of the pieces back together.  I won't say that our broken heart has healed.  I don't beieve it ever will.  Instead I like to say our heart has pieced itself back together like a puzzle.  Luckily for us, our hearts have grown as the pieces have mended.  More room for love and compassion have been added.  We share that lost part with so many other families.  Families who have been helped by SHARE have been given support free of charge.  This is accomplished by donations.  This year, our goal is to raise more for SHARE than we have before.  Charlie woud be 5 this birthday.  What better way to honor his birthday than to help families like his.
