On October 13^th 2013 I will be running the Chicago Marathon in honor of my son Sebastian Jose Garcia Browne to raise funds for the nonprofit organization ‘SHARE’, which provides support/services to families who have suffered the tragedy of child loss.

I write to humbly ask for your help in honoring my son Sebastian Jose’s memory by supporting my participation in the Chicago Marathon and SHARE ‘Walk for Remembrance and Hope.’

Sebastian Jose:

Was born with his eyes looking up to God at 9:32 am on January 27, 2012 at Mount Nittany Hospital in State College PA. He weighed 1lbs 11.2 oz and measured 15 inches long. Sebastian’s name means ‘revered’, and his middle name is shared by his maternal Cuban great-grandfather. Please join me in celebrating our angel that left us far too soon.

Oct is National Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day: 1 in 4 women experience a miscarriage in their lives; every day in the US, 2,000  women lose a baby to pregnancy/infant loss. That’s 700,000 a year, a quarter of all females in this country….Yet no one talks about it…The loss of a child is sadly an incredibly taboo “hush-hush” subject in our society; women are often forced to suffer in silence.

October 15^th was declared The National Day of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance recognizing the need for community education and awareness when a family loses a child to miscarriage, stillbirth, and/or neonatal death. While promoting the need for openness, understanding and compassion during a family’s time of grief and most importantly, allowing those who wish, to remember these children who we now hold dear.

SHARE

The mission of Share Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support, Inc. is to serve those whose lives are touched by the tragic death of a baby through early pregnancy loss,  stillbirth or in the first few months of life. Our goal is to provide support toward a positive resolution of grief experienced at the time of, or following the death of a baby; encompassing emotional, physical, spiritual and social healing, as well as sustaining the family unit. Additionally, Share provides information, education and resources on the needs and rights of bereaved families with the objective to aid those in the community, including family, friends, employers, members of the congregation,caregivers and others in a supportive role

Donations to: The Share Walk for Remembrance & Hope

Taking Place Oct 19^th, in St Louis, MO  this walk is a memorial event that provides families who have experienced the tragic death of a baby an opportunity to openly acknowledge and remember their babies amongst family, friends and other bereaved families and to walk the steps their precious children never got to take. The gathering allows our bereaved parents to find comfort in friendship, strength in shared experiences and hope for healing and happiness. Proceeds from this event allow the organization to continue to support bereaved families at no charge.

I am so indebted for the multitude of support I’ve received from SHARE after Sebastian’s death. It would mean the world to me to have your support to fundraise in Sebastian’s name. The fundraising goal for Sebastian’s team is $1700.  Any contribution, no matter how small, is so gratefully appreciated and is an important step towards meeting our goal.  (And tax deductible too!)
